Nothing made the feast of His Beatitude so great and spiritual that it was deeply felt, than realms of prayer and sacrifice where the children of the Church empathized with the people who had been washed on the shores of the hardships of life on account of the Ockhi Cyclone that struck the coastal regions in Kerala last month. A monumental decision came from His Beatitude that there would be no festal celebrations this year and instead the feast day would be observed as a day of prayer for the people who are in dire need of our help in its various dimensions.
Holy Mass was offered on January 2 at Cathedral with Bava Thirumeni being the main celebrant and His Grace Thomas Koorilos, His Excellency Yoohanon, Mar Chrysostem, His Excellency Joshua Mar Ignathios, His Excellency Jacob Mar Bernabas, His Excellency Abraham Mar Yoolios, His Excellency Vincent Mar Paulose, His Excellency Thomas Mar Eusebios, His Excellency Geevarghese Mar Makarios, His Excellency Yoohanon Mar Theodoshius, His Excellency Thomas Mar Anthonios and His Excellency Samuel Mar Irenios, being the co-celebrants. His Excellency Geevarghese Mar Makarios preached the homily.
Mr. Jacob Punnoose, the former head of the State Police and presently the secretary of the Pastoral Council of the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum, felicitated His Beatitude on the occasion. His Beatitude thanked all in reply speech. There was Holy Adoration and Rosary until 5 pm submitting the victims of Ochki cyclone to the mercy of God.
